Microblading Myths vs. Facts
Microblading has been around long enough to pick up its fair share of misconceptions. Here’s an honest look at what’s actually true.
Myth: “It Looks Obviously Fake”
Fact: Poorly done microblading can look unnatural, but well-executed work uses fine, hair-like strokes specifically designed to mimic your natural brow pattern. The skill of the practitioner — not the technique itself — is usually what determines whether results look natural or obviously “done.”
Myth: “It’s Extremely Painful”
Fact: A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment, and most clients describe the sensation as mild scratching or pressure rather than significant pain. It’s generally well tolerated.
Myth: “The Colour Stays the Same the Whole Time”
Fact: Pigment appears noticeably darker and bolder immediately after treatment, before gradually softening into a more natural tone as skin heals over the following weeks. Judging the final result based on day one isn’t accurate.
Myth: “It’s Permanent”
Fact: Microblading is semi-permanent, typically fading gradually over one to two years depending on skin type and lifestyle factors like sun exposure. It’s not a lifelong commitment the way tattooing is.
Myth: “Anyone Can Get It Done Well”
Fact: Certain skin types — particularly very oily skin — can affect how well strokes hold and heal, sometimes causing them to blur over time. A proper consultation should assess whether your specific skin type is well suited to the technique.
Myth: “You Don’t Need a Touch-Up”
Fact: A touch-up appointment, usually scheduled around four to six weeks after the initial session, is a standard and important part of the process — not an optional extra. It allows any unevenness from healing to be corrected and colour perfected.
Myth: “It Replaces Needing to Do Anything With Your Brows”
Fact: While microblading significantly reduces daily upkeep, some clients still choose to lightly groom or tidy stray hairs between sessions — it dramatically reduces effort, but doesn’t necessarily eliminate all brow maintenance entirely.
Myth: “Once Done, You’re Stuck With the Shape Forever”
Fact: Because it’s semi-permanent, if you’re not fully happy with the shape, it naturally fades over time rather than being a permanent fixture — giving room to adjust with future sessions if your preferences change.
